Characteristics and Applications of Light Calcined Magnesite

About Light Calcined Magnesite

Light calcined magnesite is calcined at 750-1100℃, known as light burning. The product obtained after grinding the light calcined magnesite is called lightly burned magnesia powder, abbreviated as light-burned powder. Due to the fact that the weight loss of light burned magnesite is generally around 50%, the magnesium oxide content in the ore can almost double through light burning.

Light calcined magnesite has high activity and is an ideal raw material for producing high-density magnesia. It is also used to manufacture cementitious materials such as magnesia cement, thermal insulation, and sound-insulating building materials, as well as ceramic raw materials. Additionally, lightly burned magnesia obtained through chemical treatment can be used to produce various magnesium salts, which serve as raw materials in fields such as pharmaceuticals, rubber, artificial fibers, and papermaking.

Light Calcined Magnesite Characteristics

  • High chemical activity: Due to calcination treatment, the magnesium oxide content of light calcined magnesite increases, and the mineral structure changes, significantly enhancing its chemical activity.

  • Excellent physical properties: Lightly burned magnesite has high density and hardness along with good wear and corrosion resistance.

  • Easy to process: Lightly burned magnesite is easier to grind and crush, facilitating subsequent processing.

Light Calcined Magnesite Application Fields

  • Refractory materials: Lightly burned magnesite is an ideal raw material for producing high-density magnesia, which can be used to manufacture magnesia bricks, chromite-magnesite bricks, and other refractory materials, widely applied in metallurgy, chemical industry, and other high-temperature industrial fields.

  • Building materials: Lightly burned magnesite can be used to manufacture magnesia cement, thermal insulation, and sound-insulating building materials, enhancing the performance and quality of building materials.

  • Ceramic raw materials: In the ceramic industry, light calcined magnesite can be used as raw material for ceramic glazes and bodies, improving the physical properties and chemical stability of ceramic products.

  • Other fields: Lightly burned magnesite chemically treated can be used to produce various magnesium salts, becoming important raw materials in pharmaceuticals, rubber, artificial fibers, papermaking, etc.
